# OnlyAEO or Moz: Is SEO Tracking Enough for AI?

> Moz tracks SEO and now AI answers too. OnlyAEO is the AEO platform that tracks AI answers and creates the content to change them, and our team can run it for you. See how the two differ, when each fits, and how to run both.

- **Yes, measure AI answers as well.** In Ahrefs' data, the links ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot cite rarely appear in Google's top 10 for the same prompt, so a rank report on its own leaves gaps.
- **Moz.** An SEO software suite with an AI Visibility dashboard, which your own team sets up and reads.
- **OnlyAEO.** An AEO platform that measures which AI answers name your brand and creates the content to change them. Our team can run it for you, and your team approves each piece.
- **How to choose.** Pick Moz if your people have time to act on another dashboard. Pick OnlyAEO if you want the gaps closed for you, or keep Moz for SEO and add us for AI answers.

Every Moz detail below comes from Moz's own website as we read it on 14 October 2026. Plans and features can change, so confirm them on moz.com before you buy.

## Do you need AI visibility tracking if you already use Moz?

Yes. A rank tracker records where your pages sit for a keyword, while AI visibility tracking records whether an assistant names your brand in its answer to a buyer's prompt, and the two can tell different stories.

Moz Pro customers may be partly covered already. Moz now describes Moz Pro as a platform for SEO and for measuring brand presence in AI-generated answers.

Acting on the data is harder. A chart that shows a rival named in ChatGPT and your brand missing helps only if someone then writes the pages, fixes the site and earns the outside mentions that can change the answer.

If you are deciding whether to staff that work or hire it out, we compare both routes in [staffing AEO in-house or hiring an agency](/blog/in-house-vs-agency-aeo-the-real-cost-and-capability-tradeoff).

## What does Moz track for SEO?

Moz Pro covers the standard SEO jobs: keyword research, rank tracking, technical audits, link data and reporting. Rand Fishkin and Gillian Muessig founded the company as SEOmoz in 2004, and the Moz Group was formed in 2021 after iContact, a Ziff Davis subsidiary, acquired it.

- **Keyword research.** Moz says Keyword Explorer draws on a 1.25 billion+ keyword index and shows volume, difficulty and potential reach for each term.
- **Rankings.** Rank Tracker follows positions across multiple search engines and locations. Moz lists weekly rank tracking under Moz Pro and recommends STAT, bought in 2018, for daily tracking plus local and mobile results.
- **Technical health.** Site Crawl produces site audits, error reports and instructions for fixes.
- **Backlinks.** Moz states that Link Explorer covers over 40 trillion links.
- **Brand and reporting.** Brand Authority tracks your brand's visibility in search, and Custom Reports highlight key metrics in reports tailored to your needs.
- **Local listings.** Moz describes Moz Local as complete local SEO management.

Apart from STAT, these tools are listed on the [Moz Pro page](https://moz.com/products/pro).

## What does Moz's AI Visibility tool measure?

Moz's AI Visibility tool tracks your brand in ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity. It measures how often you appear and how early you show up in responses.

Moz describes the tool on its [AI Visibility page](https://moz.com/products/pro/ai-visibility), and its help guide for the dashboard sets out a short setup:

1. **Name your rivals.** Add up to 3 competitors to compare your LLM visibility against.
2. **Add brand variants.** Enter up to 5 additional terms per domain that your brand goes by.
3. **Pick prompts.** Generate prompts from a topic, or type your own.

The guide and the AI Visibility page describe what the dashboard then reports:

- **Mention count.** The number of prompt responses that mention each tracked brand.
- **First-mention position.** The average placement where each brand is first named in a response.
- **Named first.** The percentage of responses in which each brand is the first one mentioned.
- **Cited pages.** Which pages and sites AI responses reference for your tracked prompts.
- **Trends.** Charts of how your AI visibility moves over time.

Moz's Pro page adds that it monitors mention depth across tracked prompts.

## Do Google rankings predict AI citations?

Weakly for most standalone assistants, and more closely for Google's AI Overviews. That is the pattern in an Ahrefs study whose data, collected in early July 2025, may have changed since, as Ahrefs notes.

In the [Ahrefs study](https://ahrefs.com/blog/ai-search-overlap/), the team ran 15,000 long-tail queries through Google and Bing, then put the same questions to AI assistants. What it found varied by engine:

- **ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot.** Only 12% of the links these assistants cited appeared in Google's top 10 for the same prompt. Ahrefs adds that 80% of those citations did not rank anywhere in Google for the original query.
- **Perplexity.** Closer to Google, with 28.6% of its cited URLs in the top 10, per Ahrefs.
- **Google AI Overviews.** Earlier Ahrefs research found 76% of URLs cited in AI Overviews came from top-10 pages.

Ahrefs links the gap to query fan-out: assistants tend to retrieve pages for multiple variations of the question the buyer typed, not just that one. A rank tracker follows the single keyword you gave it.

Treat that split as a rule of thumb from a single study. We cover its symptoms in [ranking on Google but invisible in ChatGPT](/blog/ranking-on-google-invisible-in-chatgpt).

For its own AI features, Google says classic SEO still applies. Its [AI optimization guide](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/ai-optimization-guide) says SEO best practices stay relevant because its generative features are rooted in its core ranking and quality systems. Its [AI features page](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features) adds that AI Overviews and AI Mode need no extra requirements or special optimizations.

## Why do AI answers need a different kind of measurement?

An AI answer is generated each time someone asks, so you measure it by sampling: a fixed set of prompts, run across engines, with every response parsed for mentions, citations and recommendations. Those answers shift with phrasing, personalization and the sources the engine picks.

- **Repeat runs in place of snapshots.** Answers are not deterministic, so a single screenshot proves little; you need a regular cadence and aggregated counts. Google warns that AI Overviews and AI Mode can run on separate models and techniques, so each returns its own mix of answers and links.
- **Mentions and citations, counted apart.** A mention tells you AI named you; a citation shows which page, yours or a third party's, fed the answer.
- **Share of voice as a ratio.** It is your mention count divided by the mentions of you plus your tracked competitors, so the rivals you choose to track change the figure.

For a step-by-step method, see our guide to [measuring your AI visibility](/blog/how-to-measure-your-ai-visibility-a-step-by-step-guide).

A limit applies to every outside vendor, us included. Google's AI optimization guide says it plainly: "No third-party tool has access to our internal ranking or AI systems". So for Google's own AI features, its Search Console data is the closer record (see the FAQ).

## How does OnlyAEO measure AI visibility?

Our platform puts your buyers' questions to models from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek and Grok, and records how each one answers. Perplexity is part of our team's work, but the platform does not track Perplexity or Google AI Mode.

- **Engine models.** The models on offer are Grok, DeepSeek Chat and Reasoner, Gemini Pro and Flash, Claude Opus and Sonnet, and ChatGPT with ChatGPT mini. The default set is ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, all three browsing the web, and every prompt is asked twice on each engine.
- **Recommendations on their own line.** Answers where AI recommends you get their own count, apart from answers that only name you or cite your page as a source.
- **Answers kept verbatim.** Each answer is stored word for word beside the prompt that produced it, so a colleague can rerun it in ChatGPT or Claude and compare.
- **Prompts per persona.** Personas are built from your market, covering each buyer's job, company type, goals, frustrations and buying criteria, since AI answers change with who is asking.
- **Earn-citation list.** A ranking of the outside sites AI already cites on your topics where your brand is not yet mentioned, and for each one the move we suggest, whether that is a listing, a review, a partnership or a guest post.
- **AI bots on your site.** Our tracking recognizes 170+ AI crawlers, records the pages AI crawlers fetch, and picks up visits from AI answers that GA4 does not count.

Runs can be one-off or scheduled quarterly, monthly, fortnightly, weekly or daily. Each month the scorecard covers LLM recall frequency, citation share and mention rate across the engines we track.

## What does OnlyAEO do with the data?

OnlyAEO is an AEO platform that also creates the content, and on a managed plan our team runs it for you. Each gap in the monthly report card becomes a task for our team, and someone on your side reviews and signs off each piece before it is published.

The work falls on and off your site:

- **On your site.** Researched, answer-first articles published under your domain.
- **On YouTube.** Video series planned and scripted for your channel.
- **On other sites.** Mentions earned in the places AI already reads for your category, from review and listing sites to forums and publications, via monthly PR, guest articles and community seeding. The earn-citation list ranks where to start.

When [FastTrackr AI](/case-studies/fasttrackr-ai) began with us, it held 0.1% AI visibility and sat at #338 of 458 tracked brands; by about day 100, it was its category's #3 most-cited brand and #4 most-cited source. Our [how it works](/how-it-works) page walks through the full process.

## OnlyAEO and Moz side by side

Moz's cells come from Moz's own pages, read on the date given at the top. The sections above hold the detail behind each row.

## Can you keep Moz and add OnlyAEO?

Yes, and that is the split we suggest to Moz customers: Moz for keyword research, rank tracking and crawl health, our team for the AI answer work. By Google's own guidance above, the SEO work you run through Moz stays relevant for its AI features.

If your team already runs Moz's AI Visibility dashboard, keep it. Our content engine takes in a report from any AI visibility tool, as a share link, a PDF, a spreadsheet, a Word or HTML document, Markdown or plain text, and parsing takes 20 to 60 seconds.

Gaps in that report go into our plan alongside our own data. Running both also widens engine coverage (compare the AI engines row in the table).

## How soon will you see results?

In the usual case, plan on at least 60 days before first results can be measured. We give no results guarantee, and we will not promise you a set ranking, citation or spot inside an AI answer.

In practice, read the Moz report and ours together while you wait. As a rule of thumb, a page that holds its Google position in Moz while its AI citations slip in our report is a good first candidate for rework.

Treat any provider that promises placements in AI answers with caution. Our [AEO RFP template](/blog/aeo-rfp-template-28-questions-to-evaluate-an-agency-honestly) has questions that test claims like that.

## Should you choose OnlyAEO or Moz?

Start with who will act on the data. Then weigh which engines your buyers use and how much SEO depth you need.

### When Moz fits better

- **Your SEO team already lives in Moz.** The AI dashboard sits in a tool they already use, so there is no new vendor or login.
- **Google AI Mode or Perplexity matter most.** Moz's AI Visibility tool tracks both.
- **Someone on your team can own the follow-up.** Moz shows where rivals lead and where you have room to grow, and your people act on it.

### When OnlyAEO fits better

- **Nobody on your side has time for the follow-up.** On a managed plan, our team does it, and you approve each piece.
- **Claude, DeepSeek or Grok reach your buyers.** Our platform runs models from all three.
- **You want to know when AI recommends you.** Our reports count recommendations separately from plain mentions.
- **You want answers you can check yourself.** Any answer in our report can be rerun from its saved prompt.

## More questions about OnlyAEO and Moz

### Can SEO software handle AEO work?

Some of it. On top of the AI Visibility dashboard, Moz builds its own Moz AI into Domain Overview and Keyword Suggestions. Closing the gaps in your AI visibility is still left to people, on your team or ours.

### How do I see traffic from Google AI Overviews and AI Mode?

Google includes sites that appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode in the search traffic totals in Search Console. To measure how content performs in its generative AI features, Google points to Search Console's Generative AI performance report.

### Can blocking AI crawlers keep my site out of ChatGPT?

It can affect ChatGPT search, because OpenAI uses its OAI-SearchBot crawler to surface websites in ChatGPT's search features. Part of what we include is a site health check confirming that each AI engine is able to read your pages.

### What do OnlyAEO and Moz cost?

This page leaves prices out, since both depend on scope and can change. Ask each company for a current quote, and confirm what it includes: software access, work done for you, or both.
