- **Otterly.AI is a tracking tool.** It runs the prompts you choose across AI engines, reports which brands get cited and suggests on-page fixes.
- **Otterly says it does no services.** Its own blog points brands that want the work done to its agency partners.
- **OnlyAEO tracks and creates.** It is an AEO platform that also produces the content, and on a managed plan our team writes and publishes the articles, makes the videos and chases the third-party mentions, while your team approves each piece.
- **Choose by who has the hours.** If people on your team can act on a report every week, Otterly can be enough. If nobody can, the gaps it finds stay open.

## What does Otterly.AI do, according to its own site?

Otterly.AI is software for tracking and improving how a brand shows up in AI search. Its homepage calls it "the Content Intelligence Platform for AI Search," spanning research, monitoring and optimization.

The workflow starts with you, as [Otterly's homepage](https://otterly.ai/) describes it. You write prompts that mirror what buyers type. Otterly runs them across AI engines, and it records which brands get cited, how often and in what context, a figure it calls your Share of AI Voice.

### Monitoring

- **Dashboards.** The homepage lists brand coverage rate, share of voice against competitors, visibility per platform and trends over time.
- **Sentiment and sources.** Otterly reports the tone of AI answers about your brand and which links those answers reference.

### Help with optimization

- **Content Audit.** Crawlability checks, content prediction and content briefs aimed at pages AI currently ignores.
- **On-page recommendations.** Otterly suggests GEO changes to a page so that it gets cited more often.

Every item on those lists is information, a brief or a suggestion. Someone still has to act on it.

## What happens after Otterly.AI shows you a gap?

Your own team does the work, or you hire someone who will. Otterly is plain about this: in an April 2025 post on its blog, it describes itself as "a software platform" and adds, "we don't do any services".

The [same post](https://otterly.ai/blog/geo-agency-partners/) points brands that need hands to its agency partners. That's a fair position for a software company. It also tells a buyer what the subscription covers: the diagnosis, then a handoff.

In practice, the work after each report runs in a loop:

1. **Pick the gaps worth closing.** A prompt where a competitor appears is only worth chasing if a real buyer asks it.
2. **Rewrite or create the page.** A content brief needs a writer who knows the product and what the brand can claim.
3. **Earn mentions elsewhere.** PR, listings, reviews and community threads, each with its own owner and its own pace.
4. **Check the next report.** See whether the change moved the answer, then start again.

With us, every gap in the monthly AI report card becomes work our team picks up. If you're weighing a hire for that loop against an agency, our piece on [staffing AEO yourself or hiring an agency](/blog/in-house-vs-agency-aeo-the-real-cost-and-capability-tradeoff) sets the two side by side.

## Why doesn't tracking alone get a brand named by AI?

Most of the fix sits outside the dashboard, on your pages and on other people's sites. Otterly's own homepage says AI search engines "trust what the web says about you" and tells brands to build presence on PR, earned media, Reddit, Wikipedia and social.

[CXL's guide to answer engine optimization](https://cxl.com/blog/answer-engine-optimization-aeo-the-comprehensive-guide/) makes the same point from outside the vendor world: AEO also happens off the page, and off-site factors weigh on whether an engine treats your content as credible.

A tracker can show that a review site or a forum thread gets cited. Getting your brand into that thread is outreach, and our piece on [why AI recommends your competitor instead of you](/blog/why-ai-recommends-your-competitor) covers how those gaps form.

On Google, there is no technical switch to flip either. [Google's guidance on AI features](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features) says there are no additional requirements or special optimizations needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. To be eligible as a supporting link, a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet.

The on-page side takes effort too. CXL's own analysis of a sample of Google AI Overview citations found 55% came from the first 30% of the source page, and acting on that can mean restructuring live pages so the answer sits near the top.

CXL suggests starting with questions where answer engines already appear and where being included would matter to the business, then inspecting the cited sources for what they answer sooner, explain better or support with stronger evidence than your page.

Each comparison ends in a writing or outreach task (see the loop above).

## Which AI engines does each one cover?

Otterly's base plans track 4 engines. Our team works on a longer list, and our own tracking platform reports on a different set:

- **Otterly.AI.** Its pricing page says the Lite, Standard and Premium plans track ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, with Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini sold as add-ons.
- **Our work.** Our team works on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Overviews, Instinct and Meta AI (Muse).
- **Our tracking platform.** It reports answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek and Grok.

The overlap is partial. Otterly's base tracking includes Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot, which our platform does not report on, while DeepSeek and Grok appear in ours but not among the engines Otterly's homepage and pricing page list.

If you need dashboards for Perplexity or AI Overviews in particular, Otterly wins on that count.

## What does OnlyAEO do each month?

OnlyAEO is an AEO platform that tracks AI answers and creates the content to change them, and our team can run it for you: on a managed plan, our people carry out the AI search work, and your team signs off on each piece before it is published. You get finished work, with a report alongside it.

### What the work includes

- **AI visibility analytics.** A monthly report on where AI engines name you.
- **Articles on your site.** Researched and fact-checked, written in your voice and published in your site's design.
- **YouTube videos.** Videos every month, planned, scripted and packaged by our team for your company's channel.
- **Other languages.** Articles in French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Arabic, Indonesian and more, researched and checked like the English ones.
- **Mentions on trusted sites.** A ranked list of outside sites that AI already cites in your category but that leave you out, each with a suggested move: guest post, partnership, listing or review.

### How a month runs

1. **Kickoff.** We begin with a 30-minute call, and you send the writing you're proudest of plus the facts you want AI to get right.
2. **Learn the brand.** We study how you write, what is true about the product and who buys it, then connect publishing.
3. **Report.** We run the monthly report listed above.
4. **Create and approve.** We produce the month's work, and your team approves it.
5. **Review.** Together we look back at what worked and set next month's plan.

Every article starts from your Context Graph: one shared record of the company, wired to sources such as Google Search Console, WordPress, Google Drive, Slack and YouTube.

It holds your facts, buyers and competitors, plus what you are and aren't allowed to claim, and when something is missing our team asks you. There is more on [how it works](/how-it-works).

## How do you tell whether AI answers are bringing in pipeline?

You tie visibility to traffic, leads and revenue, and you count recommendations apart from passing mentions.

CXL advises tracking a fixed set of questions (does the brand appear, is it cited, which source, which competitors keep replacing you) and then connecting visibility to AI referrals, branded demand, leads and revenue, not citation count alone.

Otterly's dashboards, described above, cover the visibility half of that list. We add pieces aimed at the business half:

- **Recommendations in their own column.** An answer that recommends your brand is tallied apart from answers that merely name you in passing or cite your page as a link.
- **LLM Attribution.** It shows which AI answers send you pipeline.

In a board deck, the two read differently. A brand named late in a long list is visible. An answer that tells a buyer to choose you is what you're paying for. Our guide to [proving AEO drove pipeline when AI buyers leave no referrer](/blog/prove-aeo-pipeline-no-referrer) goes further on the reporting.

## Otterly.AI vs OnlyAEO, side by side

These are the plan details and service terms not covered above.

| | Otterly.AI | OnlyAEO |
|---|---|---|
| **Tracking schedule** | Daily tracking frequency | Each prompt runs twice per engine; ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are on by default, with web search |
| **Prompt volume** | From 15 search prompts on Lite up to 400 on Premium | Buyer personas researched by role, company type, goals, pain points and how each buyer decides, since each persona gets a different answer |
| **People on the account** | Unlimited team members; 1 workspace on Lite | A dedicated team for each client, with a regular review alongside your people |
| **Optimization output** | 3 recommendations per week on Lite | Published work, as listed in the monthly section above |
| **Site audits** | Generative Engine Optimization Audit on its plans | A health check of your site, so that all AI engines are able to read it |
| **Before anything goes live** | Your team's own review process | Claim check against evidence, humanizer in your voice, link validator, independent score of 85+, then human approval |

## When does Otterly.AI fit better?

Otterly fits a team that has the people to act on its findings and mostly needs the data. Cases where we'd point a buyer toward it:

- **A solo marketer or small team.** Otterly's pricing page aims the Lite plan at solo marketers and small teams, and Standard at SMEs and small marketing teams.
- **You want to start today.** The homepage says you can sign up and begin monitoring right away, and the pricing page mentions a free trial for new users.
- **Budget stretches to software only.** If there is room for a subscription but not for outside help, a self-serve tool your staff runs is the realistic option.
- **You want the raw data in your own stack.** Otterly's public API returns brand reports, prompts, citations and workspace data for your own reporting.
- **You report on Perplexity or AI Overviews.** See the engine section above.

## When does OnlyAEO fit better?

OnlyAEO fits when reports pile up and nobody on your team has time to turn them into published work. Typical signs:

- **You want finished work, not briefs.** See what the work includes above.
- **You need the revenue link.** Your CFO wants pipeline tied to AI answers; see the pipeline section above.
- **You want a dedicated team.** One that learns your brand from the Context Graph (terms in the table above).

## Can you keep Otterly.AI and hand the work to OnlyAEO?

Yes. Otterly's pricing page lists detailed reports and export, and our content engine accepts reports from any AI visibility tool in CSV, Excel, PDF, Word, Markdown, HTML or plain text, or as a share link, reading one in 20 to 60 seconds.

The gaps in your Otterly report become the brief our team works from. You keep the tracking you already watch, and the next export shows whether the work moved anything.

You don't need both, though. Our platform includes its own monthly analytics, so keeping Otterly comes down to which dashboard your team prefers and which engines you need to see.

## How long before OnlyAEO's work shows up in AI answers?

Plan on at least 60 days: that is usually how long the first measurable results take. The monthly report shows where you stand along the way.

When the work began, [FastTrackr AI](/case-studies/fasttrackr-ai) was at 0.1% AI visibility, in position #338 among 458 brands. Roughly 100 days on, it was third by citations among brands in its category and fourth among cited sources.

Your own pace depends on where you start and on your category.
